Preparation

Reading text

To: Jon
From: Sue
Subject: Great presentation!

Hi Jon

I'm just writing to say well done on your presentation this morning. It was not an easy task and I'm glad it went well.

You were well prepared. The content was relevant and easy to follow. You also thought about the questions people would have. I think they were impressed! I'm sure everyone feels happier about the new system now.

If you have time, please could you listen to my presentation for next week?

See you later
Sue

Tips

  1. Write a clear subject line.
  2. It's OK to start with Hi for an informal or friendly email.
  3. Start with your reason for writing:
I'm just writing to say …
  4. Give specific feedback about things that went well:
The content was relevant and interesting …
It was easy to follow …
… you thought about the questions people would have.
  5. Say what effect their work has had:
    I think they were impressed!
I'm sure everyone feels happier about the new system now.
  6. You can finish with See you later or Speak soon.

Yes, I frequently congratulate my colleagues and friends who achieve on something important for them. For instance, graduation or job promotion. Here is the example:

Dear Rysta,

I am just writing to say well done on your job promotion last week. I’ve heard your presentation impressed every board of director. I think you really deserve this.

Your can convey your ideas smoothly in front of them and you answered their questions precisely. I have no doubt that you will make great impact to our company based on your long journey in risk division.

Since you’ll be very busy in the upcoming week, do you have some time to have a cup of coffee tomorrow morning? I need your guide to continue your last task in your previous division.

Thank you

Dear My Friend,

I just arrive at home after saw your thesis presentation. I know how hard you prepared all of it, thus i want to congratulate you to successfully through it. Even there are some constraints, but you can handle all of it beautifully. I know you got some criticism from the examiners, i hope it wouldn't drag your spirit. Instead you should take their criticism as your motivation.

Once again, congratulation for your presentasion. I'm proud of you.

Regards,

WSS

Yes I do, in fact I do it everytime I consider they’ve done something useful or good to the
work of the team I work for, I think that despite the salary we get for doing our job, it’s
important to make it clear when someone do something really good, specially when it
saves time of work or avoid future problems, and most important to me is when they do
it as a self initiative before someone ask them to do it.
