Tips

  1. Start with Hi if it is an informal email to someone you know.
  2. The email can have three main paragraphs:
    • the reason for writing (= to say thank you)
    • the main point (= more details or examples)
    • a wish or offer for the future.
  3. Use emojis (e.g. smiley) or emoticons (e.g. :) ) to show you're joking.
  4. You can say See you soon / See you next year if you hope to meet again.
  5. Use a closing phrase like Keep in touch, Write soon, Speak soon or Take care.

I just wanted to write and say thank you for letting me visit you in Sortland:)

I had a wonderful time, and I really enjoyed walking around the city with you. Thank you for including me in your everyday life in Sortland, - Ive gotten a few new television shows to binge-watch when I get home! Thank you for being great hosts, it was such a fun time being with you.

Get in touch if you ever get back to Oslo, and we will hang out.

All right, I would like to stay with a host family in UK.

Someday, I will have to write a thank-you email. When that time comes, I will write it like this.  

Hi Fri,

I just wanted to write and say thank you for everything.

You and your family were amazing! I had a wonderful time at your house. Thank you for providing such delicious fruits, including durians, mangosteens and pineapples. These are my favourite fruits, and I truly enjoy them. You treated me to so many and I ate until I was full. I appreciate it so much.

If you ever visit me, I would love to treat you the same way. I really hope you can come someday. 

See you soon!

My thank-you email

I hope one day when I can actually send this to a real abroad friend :) 

Hi Marco,

I just want to say thank you very much for everything that I was gotten from you and your parents. Your home was such a amazing thing to me. I learned a lot of things about your culture and food. I also improved my English a lot. You gave the experience that I can't foget. I also want to say your parents and your sister is really cute :0. They treated me very nice. Thank you about everything.

If you come to Viet Nam, I will guide you. Please let me know if you really come.

I also want to have an opportunity to travel abroad one day. Trying new things and making new friends is amazing experience.

I just wanted to say thank you for letting me to live at your house. Also wanted to sent a huge love to your parents because they are very cute and generous. 
I really love the foods at your country and my English improved a lot. I fell like at home when I lived with you guys.

It has been one of my dreams to travel to a foreign country and stay in house of someone I know, because I want to experience new things and get familiar with the people, food and culture of another country, and I want to have a friend or someone I know beside me to guide me and help me in experiencing new things.
