What's your favourite scary film?

We asked some of the LearnEnglish team to tell us about their favourite scary films. This is what they said.

I love the escapism of a good scary film. When something makes you jump out of your seat or makes you grab a cushion to put in front of your face! Especially those sorts of films where you know something horrific is going to happen, that it's going to make you jump even though you anticipate it … it still scares the living daylights out of you! One classic creepy film is The Silence of the Lambs, oh, and I loved 28 Days Later (I'm a bit of a zombie film fan too). Quiet Place I and II make your heart race! Get Out! had me gripping the end of my seat. The Ring, now that was one that stayed on my mind for ages. I could keep going … ツ
Tina

I don't like scary films at all. Anything slightly creepy, let alone an actual horror film, gives me nightmares. I watched some horror films when I was younger, but now I avoid them at all costs as they terrify me!
Joanne

I don't like slashers or very gory horror films, but I do appreciate a few classics like The Shining and The Silence of the Lambs. What I enjoy more are creepy and suspenseful films or series like Stranger Things or True Detective – the first season of both of those series are among my favourites.
Kirk

I love scary films, especially when they have a mysterious or psychological element to them, like Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me or 10 Cloverfield Lane. Recently, I really enjoyed the series Sharp Objects, a modern Gothic murder mystery with lots of twists – sooo good!!
Jo

I don't enjoy watching scary films. If I think of all the different types of films, horror films are my least favourite!

Do you like scary films?

Well, I am not a fan of thriller movies. But when I was young, I watch with my family and that's really good experience.

What's your favourite scary film?

It might be "Happy Death Day." I love that storyline and plot twist. That movie is really interesting and exciting.

I have a funny and scary story. A long time ago, when I was in my twenties, I was watching The Ring alone at home. At the exact moment the phone rings in the movie, my phone rings too. I get scared and scream a lot, but it was my husband who wants to call me

Hi NadiaPietro,

That must have been terrifying - it sounds as if it made you jump out of your skin!!!

Best wishes,
Jo (LearnEnglish team)

I don't enjoy watching movies, sometimes, when someone invites me to watch any movie I accept because of the company, that's why I don't have a title in my mind.

I used to like scary movies a lot. As I got older, I started watching films that made me happy and relaxed than scary films. But I still watch scary films sometimes. The last one I watched was a Thail film, Hoon Payon, starring Phuwin Tangsakyuen. I like it a lot.

Personally, I don't watch scary movies in my free time. Instead, I prefer to play some video games, or just go outside and stroll with my friends. However, I think it's still a fantastic and simple way to kill your time and have fun with your friends together.

Haha... I am a big fan of horror movies. The more scary they are, the more I enjoy watching them. I also turn off the lights in order to feel the real fear though I might have a nightmare then. Here is a list of movies and series which were so memorable for me; The Exorcist, Walking Dead, Wrong Turn, Insidious, The Nun, Anabelle and ... . In Iranian ones I only enjoyed a movie called "Khabgah-E-Dokhtaran" that means "Dormitory of the girls".

I don't like scary films since I was a child, they give me nightmares for several nights. I rather prefer seeing movies like Harry Potter, Rings of the lord, and stuff like science fiction or fantasy!

So, now I don’t like to watch scary movies because I really afraid of some different situations, but earlier when I was an adolescent, I really loved them and I watched all the movies which I could find. Nevertheless, I have a list of the few of my favourite films: The Ring and Quiet Place.
