I come from Vietnam which is country in Asea. We use only our Vietnamese language as a main language. So it's not easy to have English conversation frequently in fact or even phone calls if you don't work for foreign companies or having foreign friends. I have just   made few phone calls in English until now when I were joining the English learning app that has name Speak peak. In my opinion there is more difficulities to have a conversation in English on the phone due to having a different accent speaker from many countries in the world. So it has a little bit difficulity for listening to partner to get information clearly. Especially to the English begin learners as me, but it will be ok when we speak slower and pronouce clearly. I am trying to learn English on British council everyday to improve my English skills to have make friends from around the world and have more conversations in English.

where do you live? I live in Hai Duong. I am learning English too. I hope we have a partner to study together. Nice too meet you.

Hello friends, introduce my name is naifa and I am now a student majoring in English education, I would like to give my opinion about English phone calls, I think receiving phone calls using English is quite difficult because there are accent differences or lack of vocabulary in speaking but now it is very easy to learn because my listening skills have improved due to continuous practice at the British Council! Now I can better understand the main points in a short message, especially important details like names and phone numbers. Listening to voicemails in English is often very helpful, and this skill is very useful in the future. I feel more confident when receiving messages. I am happy with my progress and will continue practising to improve my skills.

Hello Naifa,

We're so glad to hear that your listening skills have improved as a result of using our listening skills section. Thanks so much for letting us know!

Best wishes,
Kirk

How often do you make phone calls in English

I haven’t made phone calls in English so far because I haven’t had any British friends, nor have I worked with any English-speaking companies

  • I don’t make phone calls very often; I remember two years ago when I had to book a room in Turkey.
  • But in the future, I'll do it more frequently.

I've  never made a phone call in English in my entire life because I don't have friends who speak in English and I  can't communicate with  a stranger confidently as well.
