Hi team

It was very exciting experience and enjoyable, I always was very bored with learning English, but I get enjoy and useful at your platform. This topic was useful to me that I've learned some vocabulary and practice my speaking skill. The very step challenge was to talk about Olympic and my favorite sports, and the most interesting steps is spot idioms.

thank you for your efforts

Hello Britch Council team. Thank you for offering me this incredible opportunity to enhance my communication skills. In the beginning, I found it hard and boring to learn English but I used to. Now I feel excited. The best thing about this course is It has several topics to learn which facilitates learning. I made a plan to spend 60 minutes at least each day on this amazing platform. This can help me to achieve my goal.

Hi Med Amine Boujnah!

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm really happy to read that our topics are interesting and motivating for you. We're delighted to be part of your English learning journey :-)

I'm starting to gain a hang of it. English became more useful to me, I enjoy practising and speaking even more. Often, more than usual. Thanks to the courses and the teachers as well as the collaborators in the English Club, Teaching centers and those giving their best shot at learning and helping others using the language in order to improve for their own sake and ours. I believe learning saved me plenty of time. In the beginning my pace was slow but after improving I found that I actually have more time to do some more activities which increased my progress over time and, as a result, the improvement multiplied through time spent becoming more efficient.

I learnt new vocabulary and grammar. New words are now added up to my list of words. I feel obtaining a rich vocab is really setting my aim tremendously which is saturated in reading and writing effectively. My skills in English are enhancing. I found words intriguing such as scorn and scorching ex: scorching heat, while scorn gives an entirely different meaning depending on the context. Adjectives used in day-to-day language. such as immense; the use of words like Believing in something rather than saying I think but rather, I believe. Those are significant and crucial in speaking. As for idioms, I used them scarcely in my English while speaking but now am able to comprehend most the expressions. phrasal verbs became more adequate. And last but not least, grammar. I learned that tenses are not the only grammatical forms when it comes to structure. There is more into it than just forming action by using verbs, for example, moving forward and heading to the marketplace. those expressions are collocated and never are separate. Adding to that the idioms and expressions such as, head-to-head differs from neck and neck. 'To get the ball rolling' is different than saying 'The ball is spinning'. The former is an expression while the latter is basically a simple sentence formed of a (subject- verb- object) the structure in English is used in this way subsequently. Unlike Arabic where you can use two forms: Either starting with a noun like a noun phrase but in a broader spectrum and secondly, you can start the sentence in Arabic with a verb and this isn't the case in English since you don't start a sentence with a verb. It comes subsequently after the subject.

The challenges I faced from the very beginning are now receding. the most imminent of which is the fear of making a mistake while talking. I even was afraid to speak up using English. I discovered that breaking those boundaries helped me improve massively. You have to express your thoughts loud and clear. regardless of anything else when it comes to language you should practice and use what you learn. By doing so, you will find solace and be more confident using the language. Studying is fine but practicing is better- what you attain through reading or listening use then in speaking. it is a necessity for improvement.

It doesn't stop there; I believe I have a long way to go and am actually starting to enjoy it.

Thanks for your patients and... Hang in there. :)

Hi Ya.so-125-

Thanks so much for your comment. I think that your words are a real encouragment for other learners. It's great to read about how you overcame your fear of speaking and how your confidence grew through practice.
I was also happy to read that the sports idioms in this topic were useful for you.
Please come back to the Learning hub next month to join in with a new topic.

See you soon!

Hi. I made this module because I was curious about this topic. Sport specific vocabulary is close to me but I don't know idioms and phrasal verbs. It is a challenge to me to listen videos. I prefer writing than listening or speaking.

Hi AMNowak,
Thanks for your comment and your feedback. I'm glad that the sports idioms were useful for you.

Best wishes,

It's my first time here. The most challenging steps were 2 and 3, because they involved listening (with some accent) and new words of a specific vocabulary (sports) who aren't common for me.

Hi Hans Cristian,
Welcome to the Learning hub and thanks for your feedback. Did you use the transcript to help you understand the videos? I hope that the new sports vocabulary was useful for you.

Best wishes,
Jo (LearnEnglish team)
