Missing a class

Missing a class

Listen to a student explain why she can't come to class to practise and improve your listening skills.

Do the preparation task first. Then listen to the audio and do the exercises.

Transcript

Student: Excuse me, Ms Henderson?

Teacher: Yes, Diana. How can I help you?

Student: I'm sorry, but I can't come to class next Wednesday. I have a doctor's appointment.

Teacher: OK. Thanks for letting me know.

Student: Is there anything to do at home?

Teacher: Let me just check my notebook. OK, first of all … you need to read chapters 17, 19 and 20 in the book. There are also some articles and a video to watch – those are online. I'll post the links online in the usual place.

Student: Chapters 17 to 20.

Teacher: Yes, except chapter 18. Chapters 17, 19 and 20.

Student: Ah, OK. Um ... is there a deadline?

Teacher: Yes, this Friday. But there's something else. I was going to give you all a practice test.

Student: A practice test?

Teacher: Yes, to help people prepare for the mid-term exam.

Student: Ah. All right.

Teacher: Don't worry, I can send you the practice test by email on Wednesday. Can you send it to me before Friday?

Student: Sure, no problem.

Teacher: And don't forget to bring a certificate from the doctor to the office.

Student: Thanks, Ms Henderson! I'll do that.

Teacher: You're welcome, Diana. Take care.

Hello I think there is mistake in a transcript and convesation too. "Teacher: Don't worry, I can send you the practice test by email on Wednesday. Can you send it to me before Friday?" What asks teacher from the student ? Resend back a practice test ? I think she asks from student send her the solved test. But that looks like resend back the same test.

Hi lean,

I see what you mean! You're right that the teacher is asking the student to send her the completed test. But actually, the word test can mean not only the set of questions, but also the student's answers too. The student's set of answers can also be called her test.

So, from the situation, we infer that the teacher wants the student to send the completed test, not just the set of questions.

Does that make sense?

No, we are already 2 days away from finishing school and they don't give me many homework assignments, as for the tasks that I like, they are the tutoring tasks since they help you to socialize more with your classmates.

I like to do all kinds of homework in English such as essays, reports, and coursework. I love so much English particularly if I am working in the international area.

Finally I do not have to worry about my homework after graduation. I should be happy but I always thought of the moment when I was doing the ambiguous results for the maths homework. Now I take lesson online every day to study English, which is also a kind of homework after a long day working.
