Episode 15 - Is there a campsite?

Sammy is excited about taking Julia to his favourite campsite. There's just one problem ...

Transcript

Sammy: It's a great campsite. I go there a lot.
Julia: What's so good about it?
Sammy: There are great facilities. There are lots of sports facilities.
Julia: Is there a swimming pool?
Sammy: Yeah, there's a really big pool. And four tennis courts!
Julia: And what other facilities are there?
Sammy: There's an indoor sports hall for badminton and other indoor sports. And there's a gym!
Julia: Are there any shops in this village?
Sammy: Shops? No, it's quite a small village. But there is a supermarket in the campsite. They've got everything.
Julia: Hmm. It sounds good, but ...
Sammy: And you can hire bikes. There are lots of bike paths around the village.
Julia: That sounds good, but ...
Sammy: And there's a bar with live music every night. It's a great place! And in the summer there are barbecues every evening outside the bar.
Julia: But ...
Sammy: And, I think there's a jacuzzi. Plus, a sauna.
Julia: The thing is ...
Sammy: Oh, and there's a small lake, right in the middle of the campsite!
Julia: That's nice, but ...
Sammy: And the TV room. And every night they put on DVDs ...
Julia: Listen to me!
Sammy: What?
Julia: It sounds like a great place, but ...
Sammy: But what?
Julia: Well ... I don't like camping. I hate tents! I prefer hotels.
Sammy: Oh, don't worry. There are lots of small wooden huts with kitchens, small bedrooms, a TV ... it's just like a hotel!
Julia: Well ... maybe.

Julia: We're lost, aren't we?
Sammy: I'm sure the campsite's round here somewhere.
Julia: This is not a small village. It's a big town.
Sammy: This is all new. It wasn't here before.
Julia: Excuse me. Parlez-vous anglais?
Woman: Yes, I speak a little English.
Julia: Oh, good. Is there a campsite around here?
Woman: Campsite? No, there isn't a campsite here now. Erm, the campsite closed ten years ago. They built this town on it.
Julia: When was the last time you came to this campsite?
Sammy: Erm ... when I was at school. It was a school trip. Yes, about ten years ago, I think.
Julia: Come on! Let's find a hotel.

Hi everybody.

I hope you're all fine.

Well, I have a question.

I'm a teacher in Porto Alegre, a town in the south of Brazil, and one of my private students really liked this serie of videos with Sammy and Julia. The point is that after episode 15 I'd like to know which videos to watch in classes since she's at A2 level? What do you recommend?

Thanks.

Fábio Gutterres Fernandes

Hello Fábio,

It's great to hear that your student really enjoyed Starting Out. I would recommend having a look at a few options and then choosing the one that the two of you like best. Not all of these options are video, I'm afraid, but hopefully one of them will meet your needs.

Best wishes,
Kirk

I do like camping, however it's been a long time I haven't done any camping activities. I remember the first time was really exciting.

When I was younger, I joined a camp with my bro which provided kids an unusual experience of walking and staying at snow valley during the daytime. We built the campfire to cook rice for lunch. It was a great experience to cook meal from scratch, but actually I was just waiting and seeing the meal to be cooked!

Great series...when is it going to continue?

Hello MarkHamburg

We're glad you enjoyed it! I'm afraid we don't know when or if we will be able to continue with Starting Out. You might enjoy our video series Word on the Street, which has a different format but which could also be really useful for you.

All the best

Thanks, Kirk.

I'll take a look and choose one of them. I really like the activities in the British Council website.

Best regards,

Fábio.

I like camping. unfortunately, I have stayed in camping very little. Last time, about 35 years ago, when I was a soldier I spent three days camping.
